Body weight is controlled by gene regulation through the activation of signal transduction pathways which ultimately regulate transcription factors and their gene targets. The Nescient basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor 2 (Nhlh2) is a target of leptin stimulation in proopiomelanocortin (POMC) neurons in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus. POMC is cleaved by prohormone convertase 1 (PC1) to alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (alphaMSH) regulating the body's response to leptin signals.At 11 AM on day 2, leptin treated animals received a 3 mg/kg body weight injection of mouse recombinant leptin (National Hormone and Pituitary ...
